Your Life Before Kids. Do You Remember?
5 kids & a lot of love and life later :-P.
Remember back to when you could buy that beautiful bebe outfit without batting an eye? Then in an instant you were shopping the clearance racks at JC penneys at best. The downgrade was in order to buy something cute for a new part of you that may not wear bebe, but sports the baby brand quite well.
Remember back to when you walked out the door, the only things in your hands were a pair of sunglasses and a set of car keys? You drove with the radio loud playing anything that you wanted, and actually enjoyed a long drive.
All of the sudden the sounds of The Gin Blossoms or whatever bands you enjoyed at the time, were suddenly replaced by the sound of Barney DVDS playing happily in the background. Well, only happily for some occupants.
Remember when you went to the grocery store to go shopping? You took your sweet time, there were no ‘I want this’, ‘Mom give me that(s).’ You actually could hear the elevator music playing in the background, and could squeeze the fruit because you had the time to do so. You bought what you needed. No glass broken along the way. No clean ups on aisle 7 announced. No extra $30 of unwanted items that ended up in your cart someway, somehow.
Remember when you laid on the beach alone…the sun shining on you for hours? You even fell asleep for just awhile as you listened to the sound of the Summer surf crashing against the sand. There was no sand accidentally or otherwise kicked in your face, no about to explode diapers to change, or an ice cream man to run a marathon after to try and get to in time.
Remember those nights that you came home and everything seemed so empty? You walked in and the world around you was so dark and quiet. There was no laughter to fill the hallways, no smiles around the dinner table, and sometimes you just sat back and pondered the question of what this life was truly all about. What is your purpose here? What are you meant for? Why are you so lonely?
Remember the day you looked into your 1st child’s eyes? You knew you’d never feel lonely again. It finally hits you… All of your life, all of it’s moments, it’s struggles, it’s periods of weakness and uncertainty, all meant to lead you to the place where your true purpose lies. For you are called mother. No job is ever higher, no honor any greater.
It may be the hardest job one will ever know, but I know for me personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I may think that insane at times, but it’s completely 100% true. I remember so well..tell me, ‘How about you?’
