My little loves are 28 months, 2 weeks, and 5 days old
You know, every day I wake up to AOL news on my computer. Every day something makes me go, ”Ewe gross,” or ”What kind of mother is that?”, or ”That’s just crazy!” Even some, ”What is this world coming to.” But none of those are quite strong enough to describe my feelings about the tragedy that occurred in a Colorado Theatre the night before last. I know that general news isn’t usually included in my blog posts, but when it touches me deeply I can’t help but to blog about it.
1st off I want to say my heart goes out to each and every person that was touched by this horrific event at The Dark Knight Rises opening. Every victim, every victim’s family member, every EMT worker, police officer, everybody who was personally touched by this terrifying, midnight tragedy. There’s a lot of healing to be done and a lot of questions to be answered.
We have learned a bit about the gunman James Holmes, and I really don’t want to use his name again in this article. This monster doesn’t deserve what he probably considers to be ’the glory’ for what he’s done here. The victims are the only ones who deserve to be spoken about and fully remembered on this sad July day forward.
The only way you’ll see this loser on my blog.
I was watching Dr. Drew last night and was kind of irked even a tad disturbed by his (kind of) ‘explaining away’ of this maniac’s behavior, or so it seemed. Normally, I think that Drew is spot on, but this time..not so much. For these actions, taken on by only one man. One man who had to have the know how, the foresight, and ability to carry out such a pre-meditatied plot, a ‘psychotic break’ just doesn’t fit the bill in this blogger’s opinion.
I don’t agree with you, Dr. Drew.
He was maybe smart enough to want to make it look like a ‘nutty breakdown’, as he was known to be a brilliant guy. A Ph.D student. To me, saying he was the Joker and blasting away at people was not a mental defect, but a pre-meditated massacre of innocent people so he could gain the attention of the world that he felt like he didn’t get, and maybe never got before from it. It deserves no insanity defense!
Dr. Drew kept spitting out words like Schizophrenia , and mental illness, and psychosis. I have had tremendous trauma in my life that make people weep when they hear a fraction of my story, and I never went and lost it. Where’s my ‘psychotic break?’ BULL SH&T! There simply are no excuses for this coward’s behavior.
I have known people with Schizophrenia and other mental illnesses, and the only ones that are capable of any violence have not led normal lives like this man did. They weren’t, up until recently, a graduate student in Neuroscience. They can’t ‘trick’ people on a regular basis into thinking they are normal. They would never be able to obtain guns and booby trap an apartment. Methodically plan and carry out such an intricate and despicable act like this…this guy, I refuse to say his name again, did that night.
Was he depressed, felt lonely and unheard or unseen by the world and decided to get some sort of sick fame by going down in history as one of the most notorious serial killers ever? I find this more likely. Sick but more likely based on the information I have heard about this person. Dr. Drew regardless of anything this behavior can not be explained away. There are many sick people in the world who would never do such a thing. This guy may not have any conscious, but I know several people like that and none have done this.
Now enough about him….the victims! One as young as a 4 month old little boy who thankfully is doing well. We don’t know the identity of most of the victims yet, but these are the ones whose names should go down in history as the heroes. The brave ones. The ones who lost their lives but live in our hearts forever. One victim’s name that was released and hit home with me was Jessica Redfield. That I believe was her pen or blog name, and her family wishes that she be called by her real name, Jessica Ghawi .
*RIP*
What drew me to her story was that she also blogged. She was funny, full of life. Wanted to be a newscaster one day and was well on her way. Jessica was only 24 years old with her whole life ahead of her. The insane and creepy irony to Jessica’s story was that she was nearly gunned down in a mall food court only 1 month prior to the Colorado shooting.
Imagine how rare it is to experience one such shooting in life, but TWO? Then to have a brush with death yet live to tell the tale, only to lose your life in the same type of unimaginable event only 1 month later is just unreal! Having had several brushes with death myself, I have since learned to appreciate life so much more, and it seemed as if Jessica felt the same way after that mall shooting 1 month back. Her words choked me up. Here are her own words, from her own blog, back from the month of June.
I was shown how fragile life was on Saturday. I saw the terror on bystanders’ faces. I saw the victims of a senseless crime. I saw lives change. I was reminded that we don’t know when or where our time on Earth will end. When or where we will breathe our last breath. For one man, it was in the middle of a busy food court on a Saturday evening.
I say all the time that every moment we have to live our life is a blessing. So often I have found myself taking it for granted. Every hug from a family member. Every laugh we share with friends. Even the times of solitude are all blessings. Every second of every day is a gift. After Saturday evening, I know I truly understand how blessed I am for each second I am given.
- Jessica Redfield
She talked about how that day she almost died had changed her world forever and made her appreciate life so much…now she’s gone. Every single one of these victims had a story…a future ahead of them. People who loved them and now mourn them.. and will forever. Sisters, brothers, mothers, daughters, sons, and fathers. It’s just a real tragedy.
It also scares me because what is going on? It seems like things in our once cushy world are more dangerous than ever before. Now you can’t even go to a movie without wondering if some nut job will come in and end your life. Some copycat also looking for some negative glory, him or herself. It’s just so sad.
I felt like I had to talk about this today. I think everybody this affects, which are thousands, need to talk about it. And we need to remember…not the schmuck that carried out this unspeakable act, but the ones who lost their lives, and those who loved them and will be forever changed by the Colorado shooting at the Century Aurora theatre that night. My heart will continue to go out to them all for as long as I live. May justice now be served in this life and for sure in the next to this animal who is certainly no ‘joker’.
