Remembering 9/11: 11 Years Later + Poem
Remembering 9/11: 11 Years Later + Poem
**9-11-11**
Today, much like the beautiful, sunny morning that is now 11 years gone by..(WOW!) September 11th is still burned into my memory, as if it happened only yesterday. I can still remember seeing the towers collapsed from across the bay. The thick smoke erupting from what resembled two giant cigars burning in the distance. I was hit by a wave of sadness, a feeling of total despair, and complete and utter helplessness.
People crying all around, buses stopped on the sides of the streets in case the kids on board had one or even two parents among the missing or perished. Knowing my mother was somewhere inside there, not remembering exactly what floor she was moved to. I hadn’t heard from her all day. It was something that I can’t explain fully in words here. Let’s just say it was a day that I, nor anyone I know of.. will ever forget.
As a proud NY-er, I know that I’ll forever be filled with thoughts of all of the wonderful people we lost on that fateful day back in 2001. The true heroes of 9/11. (Not forgetting the heroes that died, thereafter.) My heart goes out to all of the victims and the families of the victims, which could have included my own that bright, September morn. Friends almost lost..family almost lost. Acquaintances, who knows how many..were lost.
9/11 victims, you did not lose your lives in vain. You brought our country together. You made us all stronger than we ever were before. Your bravery will be eternally appreciated by us, our children, and our children’s children, onward. We love and we miss you.
God bless you all!

Today 11 years have passed, since our nation changed,
Cowards tried to take our strength, yet we grew strong again.
Today a nation’s tragedy, unites us one and all,
We still stand proud and raise our flag, we swayed but did not fall.
To break our spirit, yes you tried, but you failed miserably,
We came together, hand in hand, to bind in unity.
11 years have passed and true, our lives forever changed,
The heroes that we lost then, are remembered name by name.
We won the bigger battle, and the victors we’ve become,
We’ve taken out your leader, the Al Qaeda’s bin Laden.
You’ll never see us crumble, when you try you’ll always fail,
For America means freedom, and forever we’ll prevail.
