Prime Restaurant Review: Huntington, NY With Video
My beautiful girls are 3 years, 6 months, 1 week, and 1 day old.
Me and my husband have been looking for a new place to call our own for several years now. Why? The place that was ‘ours’ closed down. Sad because it’s where we had our 1st date, marriage proposal…everything. So in visiting about 80 restaurants since this occurrence, I think we just might have found our repeat destination in a place called Prime.
My husband took me there after hearing about it from a few work chums. Sadly, it rained the first few times we were supposed to go. Looking forward to the ambiance and outdoor dining option I opted to wait and we did. Then last week we went.
I read lots of online reviews saying that portion sizes were small and the food was too expensive for what you got. Of course, there were many, many positive reviews as well.
Let me sum up what WE thought of Prime restaurant here in Huntington, NY.
Yes, it is upscale so don’t go in expecting any dollar menu or a burger on the menu. Most people would already know that. Sure I’ve been to cheaper, but I’ve been to far more expensive to. You have to base it on the total experience. For us, the total experience was well, well worth the price of our check.
2) Portion sizes
Portion sizes were fine for us. We were both very full, yet I had to check out that cheesecake of theirs. If ever a woman had a problem climaxing, this one would take her right over the top and straight into heaven. (Sorry, that is the only association I can make.) YUP, it’s that good! Even the Cheesecake Factory bearing the words in its own name didn’t compare. Sad but true.
3) Food quality
There was nothing we ate from appetizer to dessert that wasn’t delicious. They separated our appetizer into two portions for us, but we only got charged for one. It was a nice courtesy. And our Porterhouse Steak was cooked exactly to where we wanted it to be..medium rare.
The sides are sold separately, but many to most upscale restaurants do this so it was no real surprise to us. We got the asparagus, and it was cooked beautifully. Slightly al dente. And the potatoes were delicious to. Our dogs had some wonderful left overs from our steak. We simply couldn’t finish it.
Food quality..I rate an A! They were comparable to Blackstone that has mega amazing food, but zero ambiance and space. It’s just wall to wall business men. This was so much nicer. Far more romantic. I’d love to try the sushi and fish dishes in the future.
Drinks here are priced comparably with other restaurants of this caliber. There were no SHOCKERS when the bill came. You can get pretty much any kind of drink you’d like at Prime. They have several fully-stocked bars to tend to your every heart’s desire.
The only thing that turned me off a hair was when my husband was coming back from the bathroom and someone from the kitchen had bumped into him spilling wine on his shirt. I would have liked to have seen them buy him another glass of wine on the house. That didn’t happen, but my hub isn’t a complainer so he did not. However, it would have been a nice gesture.
This is where Prime KILLED IT! I have been to restaurants in Bayville that were very exclusive and expensive, and I don’t think I have ever seen such beautiful views as the ones right there on the water in Huntington that night overlooking the bay. You can see the boats docked, watch the birds fly by, and witness a sunset like we did if you are going there for dinner. VERY romantic! This would be the perfect place for a marriage proposal, having a private party at, or even a wedding. The pictures there would be to die for.
They also have outdoor bars, outdoor fire pits and chairs where you can relax and chit chat away with your loved ones or friends. We sat for a couple of hours just soaking in the romance of the place, talking like it was our very 1st date. It was hard to keep my hands to myself in such a place, he he. But I did. (I promise Prime 😆 .)
If you have a boat and want to pull on up to Prime..not a problem. We do, but it’s way on the south shore in Lindenhurst and needs repairs. But for those with working boats that want to travel over that way.. you can stop in for lunch or dinner and pull on out. It’s a great option for boat lovers like myself.
Some views. See my video below for more pictures & info. about our Prime experience.
The place was immaculate. From the dishware and silverware to the chairs, table tops, bathrooms, etc. I was very impressed. Even my husband couldn’t stop raving about the bathroom of all things. It just goes to show you how much attention they pay to the detail and the happiness of their loyal customers.
7) The staff
I read a couple of reviews about the staff. Most were positive, but there were a few negative comments. I think it was the attitude of the people themselves and not the staff. At first we were seated outdoors but had a partial blocking of the view. When my husband said something we were immediately changed to a table with a perfect view. No snubbing at ALL. It was quick and nicely handled.
I liked the waiter’s personality and was sad he couldn’t be at our station any longer, but we tipped him well for his 15 minutes of kindness and attentiveness. The next waiter was very good also. Best part was that we weren’t rushed in the least. This is what we hate about most restaurants. The staff looks like they are hating their jobs and want you out of there sometimes, and we hate being rushed.
I can’t eat my meal right on top of my appetizer and bread. They timed it so perfectly without our even needing to say a word. Usually my husband has to ask for a buffer, but they gave us one in between each phase of our courses. I’m never able to eat dessert but thanks to that I was able to wolf down some yummy cheesecake.
The hostess that seated us was also very pleasant. Even on the phone, though they can’t promise outdoor seating availability, they do cater to your desires as best as humanly possible. I’m sure on crazy busy days and nights like on weekends it might be harder to get what you are hoping for, but they are definitely looking to please their customers as much as they can. That much I could clearly see.
I wish Prime was located a little bit closer to where we live, but it’s worth a few extra bucks in gas for a great meal and the spectacular views. It was like a mini-getaway from the kids that we soooo desperately needed. I look forward to my next visit soon, and I hope for the same great experience.
Twinpossible Prime 4.75 out of 5 stars!
Only con: I just wish that had a bit more on their menu to choose from. Like a surf and turf combo as I LOVE that! They had enough to be happy with though if you are a sea and land lover like myself. That was my own 1 gripe internally though.
They have a huge lobster tail on the menu from like a 7 or 8 lb. lobster I believe he said. That of course, is highly priced because of its size, so I wouldn’t get it. It was over the top for one, little woman. But they need something in between for the normal folk. A tail/steak combo of average size would be quite lovely. This grip definitely will not deter our return to Prime. It was a wonderful experience.
Thanks for the awesome time Prime!
