Pregnancy Must-Haves For The Mom-To-Be: A More Comfortable 9 Month Journey
Pregnancy Must-Haves For The Mom-To-Be: Sailing Through A Comfortable 9 Month Journey
The twinkies are 3 years, 2 months, and 3 weeks old.
We know that women are told to be aware of what they do and how they eat during pregnancy to properly care for their unborn child or twins. However, mom needs not get neglected during this miraculous yet often uncomfortable time for her. She deserves some pregnancy pampering to.
Here is a list of things that I personally recommend to make the mom-to-be comfortable and happy while she is experiencing her 9 month miracle.
My husband purchased a pair of these for me when I was pregnant with the twins, and these babies followed me through the pregnancy and into the great beyond. 3 and 1/2 years later they are still good as new. You do get what you pay for, as I am normally a cheap shoe shopper.
This was an amazing gift! They kept my feet toasty warm, very comfortable, always fashionable, which is still a must during pregnancy. And will last you from pregnancy to pregnancy to pregnancy.
The flat sole will also help your darling (or yourself) keep her/ your balance throughout the entire pregnancy which can be off-setting the potential for harm. I slipped in my pregnancy prior due to cheap shoes.
Women’s feet can swell and get very uncomfortable during pregnancy. Why not get the best leg up, so to speak, and treat your feet! They will thank you.
2) A pregnancy pillow
This is a true must-have! I have experience with several different brands so I can help you out there.
A) Cheap, vertical ‘stick-like’ pillows found at Walmart or Target are NOT good enough for the pregnant woman. Tried it with disappointing results.
B) Woman’s curves need to be supported. You need a plush, thick, high quality, curved pillow to conform to your body as you rest and sleep.
C) The Snoogle was tops when I was pregnant 8 years ago. I still have it. It does NOT compare to the pillows of today. (Though if it is all you can get, it certainly is worth the money.) But if you want comfort all-around, the Cozy Mom’s Today Pillow (seen below) will give you SO much comfort you will keep it around even when you’re postpartum.
It’s great also for breastfeeding multiples and cuddling up babies in for feedings or even for supervised naps. I found many uses for it.
It is on the large size, but that is not a complaint of mine. Unlike the Snoogle it covers a much larger area of the body, is far more plush and comfy. It has a cool cover to keep you from getting too hot.
It comes in a couple of different colors and is perfect to sleep or relax in while cradling your belly bump, helping to keep you positioned comfortably throughout the day and night. It definitely will help you get a better night’s sleep.
It costs a bit more, not much, and is worth its weight in gold. My husband even fell asleep in it. I’ll never part with mine.. pregnant or not.
3) A comfy tie-front robe
(I prefer a chenille or velvety fabric personally.) You don’t want to be the mom-to-be in a completely ‘zip-up’ robe for one (OK TWO) reasons. Despite my love of them.
A woman will be growing large and uncomfortable and won’t be able to bend far enough to zip it all the way up 😛 . Plus, the zipper may not close in the end, or God forbid split on her/ you 😯 .
Buy quality and it will last for pregnancy and way beyond. Daily wear is to be expected. Go with a soft and supple tie-front model and you’ll never go wrong.
4) Cozy slippers
Mom will be spending a lot of time at home before her baby or twins are born. She will need a great pair of slippers, not simply for warmth but to keep her every step cradled and comfortable. A good slipper helps with back pain as well. I recommend Nature’s Sleep memory foam slippers.
Memory foam is wonderful for absorbing the shock that a mom-to-be receives with each and every step. While pregnant the extra weight in front and even foot swelling, which changes her gait, is a significant contributing factor to back and even sciatica pain down the right leg.
Plus, these memory foam slippers help aid in circulation. Don’t skimp whichever way you go. A good pair of slippers are an amazing asset. The prices are worth it.
5) What To Expect When You’re Expecting Pregnancy Book
A few good pregnancy books will keep mom educated and hopefully off of Google. These kinds of books will teach mom all she needs to know about her growing baby to be as her pregnancy progresses. Plus, symptoms she may expect to have or may have, and also all about labor and delivery.
What To Expect When You’re Expecting I use as an example because it is one of the very best pregnancy and longest running pregnancy books in the history of preggo books.
If she is lounging a lot or on bed rest she will certainly appreciate this book all the more. Would you like to win a free copy? Click here.
More? Tons of pregnancy books for mom
6) Pregnancy lotions and oils for dry skin, stretchmarks, and itchiness
Especially in the colder months, however, year round a mom-to-be’s skin can go on the fritz and be scaly, dry, and bellies can itch bad. I personally recommend Palmer’s Belly Butter, their lotion, and also their soothing oil.
They are all wonderfully effective, great smelling, and much more affordable than some upscale brands that don’t do the job any better. Your skin will smell lovely, and your itching and flaking skin will be greatly minimized. You might just avoid stretchmarks like I did to!
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Tummy Butter For Stretch Marks
This stuff also has been highly recommended by others I know, though I never tried it.
(Several friends with twins didn’t get stretchmarks either. Not that that is the end of the world…just saying.)
7) Comfy yet fashionable maternity clothing
Maternity clothing can be expensive. Sometimes you do get what you pay for as far as the quality and comfort of say a good pair of maternity jeans. (In all honesty 9 months goes by pretty fast, you won’t need more than 2 good pairs. If you must go for 3, fine, but don’t go past that. It’s a waste.) You can wash and wear again and again changing your tops to stay stylish.
Some women make due with larger sizes of regular store-bought clothing, especially on top, while others grow larger and need to shop maternity. Some sooner than others. Never buy too much too soon..TRUST ME!
But if you want to give a gift to mom to make her happy, buy her a nice gift certificate to a quality Maternity store such as: Pea in a Pod and Motherhood Maternity. (Of course, there are others.)
Pregnancy can be uncomfortable enough without having a pair of scratchy, tough material jeans to deal with. Or an itchy, poorly made top to contend with. I say go pricey on a pair or two of name brand jeans. It makes a ton of difference. Tops are more flexible. Even Old Navy has some good ones at fair prices. JC Penney as well.
Mom wants to know that she looks good, as confidence can lack during pregnancy. Most especially in the later stages. Of course, she also needs to feel good to. There are enough discomforts along the way. Good maternity clothing will help.

8 ) A maternity support belt
Some women grow very large and are in desperate need of belly bump and back support. You can get a binder for her postpartum recovery, but while pregnant what can be done? A maternity support belt or band should really help mom-to-be out.
If she has any back, sciatica, or other complaints that are common in later pregnancy. Or if she is carrying the burden of multiples she may kiss you like her savior if you buy her one of these to wear until delivery.
There are many different kinds and styles of maternity belts and bands to choose from. Read their descriptions, some reviews, and pick what seems best for the woman in your life. (Or for yourself.)

9) A pregnancy workout
Exercise helps with so many things. An overall feeling of well being, it releases happy endorphins that are good for both mother and child. It helps to build core strength to help with back pain, and it may even help quicken the labor and pushing process. Exercise also helps keep Gestational Diabetes in check, and makes you feel stronger.
Plus, women who exercise in pregnancy not only tend to feel more comfortable throughout, but they also tend to get back into shape quicker in the postpartum period.
Of course, one must 1st check to be sure that exercise is acceptable for her (or for you) by her current OB. If there are no restrictions at all then some low impact exercise is great for everybody involved.
I personally recommend 10 Minute Solution: Prenatal Pilates. Moms don’t have a lot of time even prior to baby. It’s the perfect way to workout every area of your pregnant body without going too far or intense while sculpting different parts of the body.
Each area of the body..(buns, thighs, core, arms, and the postpartum portion) run in 10 minute segments. I adored this DVD while pregnant and highly recommend it to ALL!
10) Some comfortable maternity/ nursing bras to (If applicable)
I happen to love my underwires, but some women do not enjoy them. Nowadays in more upscale places there are underwire bras that are so well hidden that they are hardly noticeable to even the most discerning bra wearer. They help make the breasts look great and support them fully. Unsupported breasts during pregnancy can lead to postpartum sagging and even pregnancy-related back pain.
If she isn’t an underwire fan and will not wear one.. make sure it’s a bra with good support and don’t get cheap. Buy a couple of really good bras that can go the distance.
If she (or you) plans on breastfeeding you can find some really great ones both with and without underwires, that will carry her through her pregnancy and breastfeeding stages. Comfortable breasts are happy breasts 😆 !
Extra padding is not needed during pregnancy, and I don’t really recommend it. They may squash the breasts that may already be quite large, tender, and very sore to the touch. Watch the pad factor. Go for lift and comfort. Her breasts are likely large enough at this time as it is. Who needs padding?
Lots of Maternity & Nursing Bras
And of course, for her postpartum recovery, treat your sweet or yourself to a Squeem Belly Binder. Get your body back faster than you ever could have alone!
I hope this helps out. Pregnancy is a special time, but let’s face it..it’s not always flowers and rainbows. It can get mighty uncomfortable. Keeping mom happy until the birth of her baby or babies to be will score you big points. Your thoughtfulness to will be extremely appreciated.
If you are the pregnant one and are reading this for yourself, same rules apply and…CONGRATULATIONS!!
Have a comfortable and happy pregnancy!
