There is never a time in life where dreams are as vivid, silly, insane, sometimes scary, or emotionally jarring than during pregnancy. You wake up and swear the dreams were real, and everything that is wacky during the dream seemingly makes total sense at the time. Let me share a few of my own pregnancy dreams I have had in my day.
Before I birthed my 1st child, which they say any woman who has not been mother to a real child yet very commonly will dream that she is having a baby, but it’s not really a human baby. (I know.) It most often feels like it is a human child inside of the dream though. Here are a couple of my own wacky examples of this.
When I was pregnant with my first son I had two highly bizarre dreams that I can recall like this. I dreamt I gave birth to a rabbit. Oh yes, a cute, little bunny rabbit. But that was totally normal to me at the time. I was pushing it around the town in its umbrella stroller, into a movie theatre, and other public places. People told me how beautiful he was 😯 . But again, since I had never been a mother yet..this isn’t really abnormal I learned.
So funny that I found this picture under pregnancy dreams!
Then I had a dream that I was in active labor giving birth, but it was not a baby that I gave birth to. Ok, don’t laugh yet. I know that you will. It was a 4 foot hero being pulled out of my woo-ha. (Sorry TMI!) And then who could have such a lovely looking hero without a tasty beverage to go with it? (And no, I didn’t drink or eat my child. I’m just being silly here.) I don’t know if it was considered the placenta in my brain or what, but I managed to pop out a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi afterwards. Again, all seemed normal. How wacky is THAT? All I can say now is…’OUCHIE!’
The dream I won’t ever, ever forget was kind of early on in my 1st pregnancy. The sky turned black and winds roared. The clouds started parting and people were running and screaming. It appeared to be Armageddon. The return of the Lord seemed to be happening before my eyes, as his face and body suddenly emerged before me, descending from the clouds. I actually talked to him in great fear because I wanted so much to be able to give birth to my beautiful child and enjoy him.
I asked God if I would have my child. The Lord told me that yes, I would be able to have my child on this earth. He wouldn’t come for us just yet. I was relieved, however, the sad look on his face when he told me, ”You will have your child, but….” He looked very solemn and sad for me, looking down towards the ground as lightning flashed before me.
He didn’t say a word to me after the ‘but’, but after having my son, him becoming ill, and eventually passing away, it was almost like I was forewarned that I would have my child but things would not end up the happy way I had dreamt of. Thinking back on that dream still freaks me out to this day. Though if all of my weird and eery dreams came true I’d have one wacky family and life, so PLEASE don’t let that scare you.
Many a time with my other pregnancies, the twin one most especially which I was SO scared during, I had crazy and very terrifying dreams about losing my pregnancy, very premature labor, and other horrible things that were not to be. They can be very scary and hard to ignore. Just try and remember that all women have them, as pregnancies are full of hope, joy, and also..fear, whether baby #1 or baby #6! Like the dream I had not very long ago that I gave birth to quintuplets. Trust me, that is never going to happen 😆 .
Add one more to this pic. Not happening!
But not all pregnancy dreams have anything to do with pregnancy at all. They can just be really bizarre dreams. Some scary, some just flat out strange yet very vivid. I woke up this morning with my heart pounding. It had to do with trying desperately to escape my abusive ex boyfriend. (Why? I do not know. That was SO long ago.) I only woke up a short while ago, and it still has me huffing a bit. It was so real and so long. It felt like it went on for days and days. Not fun at all!
The subconscious can do some pretty wacky things during pregnancy. Share with me some of your zany pregnancy dreams. I’m sure other moms-to-be would love to hear about them. Did you have a dream BEFORE you even knew you were pregnant? Did you dream it was twins and you did end up with twins? Did you give birth to a pizza? HA HA HA 😆 . Do share!
Happy 9 months & happy dreaming!
