I was offered the opportunity to do a book review on some very creative children’s books, written by an amazing 13 year old girl named Paris, who is a very special, and very talented, little lady.
The books read thus far, have been very enjoyable and easy to read. They are simply exploding with countless, colorful, illustrations that draw you into the story, and won’t let you go. Perfect for entertaining eager young minds, and keeping them focused.
I was intrigued to do this review, because the books involved the subject of twins of course, and also there is a big sister in them, as well, just like in my ‘real-life’ home. Her name is Paris and she is at the time of the stories, only 3 years old, and is the subject that the true tales in this series, are built around.
She is dealing with all of the same things as my at the time 4 year old, was and is, and that made it really easy to relate to, on many different levels, and just really hit home. It was very nice to be able to have my daughter sit down with me and read, just me and her together, and be able to have her take part in this review, as well. I believe these books were very therapeutic for her emotionally, and great bonding time for us together, as mother and child.
The first book in the series is called, ‘I’m having twins.’ Paris is a 3 year old girl, whose mommy and daddy were expecting baby twin girls. The books explains all of her feelings while her mom was pregnant with the twins, and how truly eager she was to meet them, but ever so slightly apprehensive as well. She vowed to be the best big sister ever!
Then they go into the second phase of things, where mom has the twins in the next edition entitled, ‘My Twins Are Coming Home.’ I wish I had had these sooner. My only regret. Both me and my little girl are quite eager to read the next books in the series including, ‘My Twin’s 1st Christmas’, and ‘My Twins are turning 1’, to name just a couple.
These books brought up some great conversation between me and my daughter, whom most of you know, suffered more then the average amount of jealousy towards the twins after their birth last March. She had a really hard time adjusting, and still isn’t quite 100%, which has been the hardest part of the whole ‘raising twins’ thing.
Reading these books with her, truly helped her find someone to relate to. Something for her to look at and say, ‘ Look Paris is in the same situation as me. I’m not the only one whose mommy brought home two babies from the hospital instead of just one.’
It helped bring up issues that I know she has been burying for some time. So it was really great for her psychologically, and also in helping her with her reading skills to. After we both read though them together, I helped her read some of the story herself, with my help of course. She was honestly very eager to read these books more then once, and I found they really hit home, and I’m elate we were given the opportunity.
If you are pregnant with twins right now, or have newborns, and an older sibling, who will be affected, or know somebody who is expecting, and in such a place, this is a terrific gift for her (them), and/ or yourself. If the older sibling cannot read yet, you will want to take the time to read along with them, and spend some quality time together, which helps make them feel important, which is ever so crucial during such a tough time.
They will feel good knowing there is someone out there who understands and to relate to. These books will open up the doors of communication, which is just what you need, as a new mom, with your other children. Undoubtedly, your heart will be touched as you follow Paris along on her journey towards sisterhood, and into the beyond.
Enjoy the entire series!
