My Before I Turn 40 Bucket List: I Only Have 3 Weeks
My life’s joys and often also sanity burners 😆 (but it’s totally worth it) are 5 years, 5 months, 2 weeks, & 4 days old.
With only 3+ weeks to go until my big day. The mega 4-0 which I am absolutely NOT looking forward to, and I have dreaded my entire life, I can’t really put things on here that I know are impossible. Example: going to France, climbing Mount Everest, write an entire book or learn a new language. Those things are far out of reach at this point. It will be hard enough to accomplish these things on the below list, but I believe I can do most, but hopefully all of them. We shall see. I’m sure going to try. I should have thought of this several months ago.
1) Go to iFly, and do the flying trapeze 😯 .
Now that is something I never, ever attempted before, but it does look interesting and possibly fun to. Not sure, but I guess I will be finding out.
2) Make myself an apple martini and drink it up.
I only have wine in the house so I guess I need to go shopping for this one. It’s been 15 years and 3 kids less since I last had one. Sounds yummy. Hope I can make it right. Stiff, but right :-P.
3) Go off the diving board like a kid and attempt one or more skills never before tried by me, when I was a kid or otherwise.
Something I’d normally never attempt, and that I am afraid of. (Plenty of things there, especially at my age.)
4) Go on a romantic moonlit walk with my husband on the boardwalk.
He’s not really a romantic anymore, nor do we live close to one, so getting him there is a bigger challenge than you know. However, it is really something I’d love to do since I am a huge romantic and would love this.
5) Climb a tree like a kid again.
As best I can if I can find a climbable tree anymore. They have become hard to come by. We have zero here in our yard. I’ll look around.
6) Call someone I haven’t spoken to in a long time, and forgive them for wronging me.
7) Do something wacky in public and not give a damn what anybody else thinks.
Ex. Doing the chicken dance in an open store like target or Walmart, etc. Acting life a total goofball in some way.
I cared SO much what people thought of me my entire life. It’s be nice to PROVE that I am finally completely free from that burden ;-).
8 ) Make love in the great outdoors.
Perfect time of year for this one. I just got to get the hubby on board. (Sorry, won’t be able to show this one off .)
9) Watch a movie that I WANT TO SEE from beginning to end ALONE without interruption from kids or anyone.
A whole book would be too much to hope for, though I’d love to read that 50 Shades of Gray. Maybe I’ll put buying and starting that one on my list here to. Add it on.
10) Go to the gym
I haven’t seen the inside of the one I am paying for in ages. Hopefully, this can become at least a once a week habit when the kids are in school full-time. (Maybe more?)
11) Write a thank you letter to someone who truly has impacted my life, and mail it out to them.
12) Give something or something(s) away to the less fortunate in need.
I’m a hoarder basically, but I do like helping others, so let’s see if I can part with a few things.
13) Write a poem about my life over the past 40 years and share it with the world on You Tube.
I have a good feeling it will be kind of well.. sad. I had a tough, tough life 😥 .
14) Take a very lovely photo that captures the beauty of life and nature.
Something I never tried capturing before. I’m usually a people photog.
15) Buy something special for MYSELF!!!
Something I want that I don’t buy because of our budget and the fact that my money goes all to the kids.
16) Go and visit the house I grew up in.
I’ll get a photo to share.
17) Bungee with Mikayla (IF she will do it.)
She said she would but that could change. Either flying over the ocean at Coney Island or the shoot up in the air kind of bungee. Either is quite scary to me, though my son already has pushed me on both, so if she doesn’t do it.. I did conquer that one. Oh, and I rode King Da Ka last summer. (Scariest seconds EVER. I was forced on 8-O.)
18) Conquer one of my ABSOLUTE biggest fears… Spiders!
HOLD A SPIDER, OMG 😯 .
Hold a spider in my hand. I can’t explain how hard this will be for someone who has had this deep-rooted fear of ANY size spider since early childhood. (My brother used to traumatize me by sticking them in my hair and also putting them in my room before bedtime laughing away. I would sleep on the couch, and once I slept in the bath tub when we couldn’t find one loose in the house and stuffed a towel under the door. Yup, that bad. This may be the toughest one for me. It need not be a big spider. Any size will do for this one, trust me.I fear them ALL!
19) Try boogie boarding in the ocean. Another great fear of mine is SHARKS.
I like the bay, I’m afraid of the ocean. (Well, I did almost drown in it via an under tow as a child, but I’m kind of passed that one.) I’d like to try it despite my fears though.
20) Take a photo, and IF possible, a short video of myself in front of the Amityville Horror House.
I have been talking about doing that for ages, but I haven’t done it. I love scary movies, and I’m totally creeped out by what took place inside of that home SO much. It is here on the island. Not close, but not too far away. I don’t want to get arrested or anything, and I have no idea what the house looks like now, but I will try and get a picture in front of it at least.
21) Cross a 4 lane highway on foot.
Why would this be on here? Well, because when I was 15 I did that and got struck by a speeding truck. Obviously, I lived to tell the tale very shockingly! Have I ever crossed a major road like that ever since that day? Hell no! So it’s facing another fear of mine. The actual road is very far away from me, so I may not be able to do the exact one (road or spot) where I got hit, which would be best, but something equally similar if not exact.
22) Go on a horse trail ride again.
I haven’t been on a horse since I owned one, and the barn help was feeding the horses while I was still riding my horse and my boy bucked up, knocking me out, and then bucked a second time (thankfully) ejecting me over his head (obviously out of the saddle) and face first onto the ground after sailing at least 10 feet into the air. I was nearly trampled to death by a mere fraction of an inch or so, but my baby was trying to not hurt me. He was just trying to get to his dinner.
I was too scared to ride him, though it was NOT his fault. I kept him as a pet for awhile, but it grew way too expensive here in New York, and we had to part with him because of finances. I haven’t been back on a horse AT ALL, and it was always a huge passion of mine. I’d love to try a trail ride again. Hopefully, finances allow all of these things to take place. That is the hardest part with my husband not working right now.
23) Go on a few hour road trip with the kids and survive to tell the tale.
Mine are SO difficult in the car. Even hour long trips are ferocious most times. We have something planned in a couple of days, so I figured, why not add it on here. And hopefully, we will have a great time at our destination, God willing . I want to try the surfboard simulation at Aquatopia. I’ll add that in if I can do it. I sure will try.
24) Ride a mechanical bull.
25) Let my kids know how much I whole-heartedly adore and love them with every fiber of my being via list.
They know this. I tell them daily. But I really want them to know, know, KNOW and never forget it.
(I will write a list of what makes each of them so very special to me and the world and share it with them. I will put it on video once my entire challenge is complete.)
What’s on your before 40 bucket list?
OK.. I think that is enough to try and squeeze in with only 3 weeks to go and a house full of kids to worry about. (Days go by extra, extra quickly.) Hopefully, I can complete most if not all of these things and share them here via You Tube video after September 14th commences.
