Last Minute Mother’s Day Gifts That Will Make Mom Smile
Last Minute Mother’s Day Gifts That Will Make Mom Smile
5-10-2013
With only a couple of short days to go until Mother’s Day, have you bought or even thought about your Mother’s Day gifts for your mom, your wife, etc.? Well here are some ideas for gifts that will surely make any mom smile.
Personal favorites for mothers
1) A gift certificate for a massage.
You can buy them online and print out the certificate to. I did this for my dad last year on Father’s Day, and he couldn’t have loved it more! Perfect for someone when you don’t know what they want or need, or seemingly already have everything.
2) A day, or a 1/2 day of beauty
(If it can be afforded.) There is nothing more appreciated by a mother than some R&R and being catered to, instead of catering to.)
3) For wives.. be her personal maid
For the day let your wife have her own time to do as she chooses while you take over her daily tasks which includes cleaning up the house. Your wife will return home with a grin from ear to ear from your efforts, believe me. This also is FREE!
4) Say it with flowers
Yes, flowers can be pricey and all they end up doing is dying, however, many wives most especially, get sad that nobody (meaning their husbands) send them flowers anymore. It’s what the flowers mean, not the short life-span of their blooms, which is unfortunate.
Show your spouse that the romance is still alive. Grab her 12 or 24 long stem roses in her favorite color. Or buy her her favorite flowers. The one you remember the name of but haven’t bought her in almost a decade. She’ll be all smiles. Remember to do that at some other unknown point during the year to seem romantic and spontaneous.
5) A gift card to her favorite store.
Some men just aren’t good at knowing what their wives (and moms) want. I know I always appreciate a gift card to my favorite stores. It’s more personal than giving cash because she’ll know you remember where she likes to shop, and you went out of your way to go and buy it for her. Plus, she’ll be able to finally spend it on herself. I have learned that cash just ends up going to the kids, or bills, etc.
Gift cards with a romantic, hit-home, Mother’s Day greeting card with a handwritten, romantic little note inside, will score you more than just a few points with the wifey..(wink, wink.) Can the romantic note and it’s perfect for your own mother also.
6) A romantic evening out.
Yes, that includes dinner. If she has a favorite restaurant like I do (hint, hint hubby), don’t wait any longer. Make your reservations NOW, as Mother’s Day is one of the biggest eat-out holidays if not the biggest of all year.
Figure out who will watch the kids, a friend, family member, or trusted sitter, and set up a nice quiet evening for you and your wife. After a great meal it doesn’t hurt to park somewhere really private and pretend you have run out of gas. Hey, she’ll never buy it, but I know after a glorious meal and a couple of drinks, I don’t feel like returning home very quickly.
Hey, if you can spend the entire night in a hotel room.. even better. Of course, you’d need to have someone you’d trust overnight with your children. For your own mom, taking her and your wife and the kids out to dinner is a great choice. Less romantic of course, with mom and children aboard, but she’ll surely appreciate it.
7) Photo gifts
Put thought into your gift and do it with family photos. I do this for my mom for Mother’s Day, and my husband for Father’s Day, from the kids. It shows that you care and took time out to make the gift. Nothing moms love more than their kids. And you of course.
Photo mugs
Calendars
Mouse Pads
Photo books
(Some can be made quickly.)
Personalized photo frame with family picture inside.
Key chain
Photo blanket
Canvas painting of your family, or you as a couple
The list goes on and on….
And if you think it’s too late..don’t. Go to Walmart.com and some gifts will only take an hour. Shutterfly and like sites do an amazing job. Just choose overnight shipping ASAP!
Those are some personal gifts for Mother’s Day. Other tangible possibilities for mom are:
1. Her favorite perfume
2. A pocketbook by her favorite brand. (Know her style.)
3. A piece of jewelry
4. A cashmere sweater
5. A memory foam mattress, soft down pillows or memory foam pillows. Special body pillows for the mom-to-be.
Something that makes mom’s sleep time more comfortable. She never gets enough of it. Also, let your wife sleep in to. Trust me, it will score you big time points
.
6. A lovely jewelry box.
Both romantic AND practical.
Things to NOT buy mom for Mother’s Day
1. Gym membership
(Unless she’s been asking for it personally.)
2. Workout equipment
(Same as above.)
3. Flowers if she is allergic.
(Major fupa.)
4. A kitchen appliance
Too domestic to be romantic, even though this isn’t Valentine’s Day. Unless she asked for it for Mother’s Day, or is hinting at it, go with a more thoughtful, romantic gift idea above.
5. Cash in a card
I do love cash, but that gift does not require any thought or work on your part. Gift cards are better.
I hope this post has helped make gift choosing easier for the upcoming holiday. Feel free moms to add what you’d like below in the comment section to help the men out!
Happy Mother’s Day to all!
(You all deserve one!)

My mom’s thing is scarves. Chunky wool scarves, floaty gauzy scarves, soft silk scarves…It works though, because I love scarves but am not confident enough to wear them. So I buy ALL the pretty scarves, and use them as gift wrap for the other presents.
