MoonWalk NYC 2013: Come Walk The Walk Against Breast Cancer
I don’t think there is one person reading this who has not been affected by breast cancer. Whether it is personally, or a mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, or friend. I know I have been with a couple of relatives of mine. It’s a cause that is close to my heart.
This walk comes at a time where a very brave Angelina Jolie came forward to tell the world about her preventative double mastectomy after learning of her BRCA gene mutation. I had this testing myself because of the breast and ovarian cancer in my family. Luckily, I dodged that bullet, but it still has made this a cause that I fully support.
I have been on both walks (breast & ovarian cancer) before. I have always gotten a very accomplished and selfless feeling inside in doing so. It makes you feel good, believe me.
For anybody who wants to be proactive whether personally affected by the cause or simply moved by it, I invite you all to join in on July 20th at 10 pm for the NYC MoonWalk for breast cancer awareness.
You can choose to participate in the entire walk if you are able to which is 26.2 miles, or you may do the half walk which is 13.1 miles. (The half-moon walk.) The choice is yours. I’m hoping to be able to join in myself. How about you? The cause is a very worthy one, indeed.
Nearly 1/2 a million women die each and every year from breast cancer. Women like you and I all around the world. You can help make a difference. Every walker counts. If you live in the Tri-State area and are able to come and walk with us, please do. If you live further yet feel moved to come also..PLEASE do!
Walk for past generations and futures ones. For your daughters and your future granddaughters. You may feel small in the scope of the world but you can contribute to something very, very big!
It should be a beautiful night in lovely New York City. All of the other walks that I have participated in were in the day time. I think this is a marvelous and unique idea. Especially since July can be quite hot. It will be cooler. It will be a truly amazing event.
Presented by Empire BlueCross BlueShield, the overnight walk through New York City will have an estimated 8,000 participants. The MoonWalk will begin with a participant opening ceremony celebration at Randall’s Island. Walkers will then depart weaving through Manhattan past the city’s most iconic landmarks, lit up brightly at night.
Nothing is more beautiful than NYC at night. Take in the beautiful sights that the city has to offer. Plus, think about all of the calories you will burn. The ‘get fit’ angle certainly doesn’t hurt. You are NOT required to do the complete walk. Whatever you can do is appreciated.

A past walk where some got VERY pink for the cause of breast cancer awareness!
The hope for this walk if to raise 2 million dollars in one night, most of which will be granted to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which my mom happens to go to on a yearly basis. This money will help to support their Breast Examination Center, which is located in Harlem.
Thus far in years gone by, Walk the Walk has raised over $126 MILLION dollars for very important breast cancer causes. Won’t you come and help us achieve this goal?
I’m hoping my husband can at least drive me there. (He is scared of me in the city alone.) I pray I can take part. I really REALLY want to! I’ll figure it out..someway, somehow. Maybe I can get my mom or a friend to go along. Maybe I’ll see YOU there 😀 !
