Moms-To-Be Of Twins Wanna Know: Should I Dress My Twins Alike? When Do I Stop Dressing My Twins Alike?

My little clothing clones are 27 months and 3 weeks old.
One of the most fun things in having twins, especially in the beginning before they can do anything that is truly fun and interactive, is the prospect and then the reality of dressing your duo alike or coordinating outfits to match one another.
It’s a pricey perk for all twins, even boy/girl ones, and the majority of twin moms do do it. The length of time that they do it will vary from multiple mom to multiple mom, as there are no hard and fast rules on this.
I met one of those rare mothers of twins who never dressed her two girls alike. She adamantly told me that she wanted them to have their own identities. Ok, I can respect that. And I agree with her at the age they were there..(7 years old). But they also happened to be identical. There is no second guessing ‘are they twins’ merely from their clothing.
My girls being so very fraternal in looks in all honesty, makes me want to dress them alike even more so.
Always has
My thoughts are this whether identical twins or fraternal twins. The first few years are not going to make one bit of difference to them so do what you want to do. If dressing them alike is adorable to you and you wish to do it, then do it. Do not worry about any ‘identity crisis’ during the first few years of life.
As long as you always treat your twins like individuals, give them love and attention that they can call their very own, and see each child’s separate strengths and appreciate them both for what and who they are, I say..let it ride.
Right now my twins are 27 months and enjoy dressing alike. Annie always goes and gets a matching head to toe outfit, the same shoes, and matching bow for her sister and brings it in to her like, ”Here you go my other half. My bestest buddy.” It’s so stinkin’ cute.
I’ll be a bit sad when they don’t show any interest in dressing alike any longer. Most especially because they look so very different. Nobody will ever be guessing they are twins. However, I will respect their right to dress differently and not force or push them.
If they choose to dress the same come 4 years old and beyond, I’ll be all for it. But I know inevitably the day will most likely come where they do not wish to do this, and I will absolutely honor and respect their individual tastes, style, and desires. Until that day comes I say moms…ENJOY! Do what you wish and just mush up those babies while they are still babies. The time goes far too fast!
These kids have their own personalities dressed alike or not!
(So will yours.)
Happy shopping!
