Mom to Mom: Taking Care of Each Other.

 

 

We moms have to stick together through all stages of life, good and bad. Raising children and being a wife is no easy task. Then you throw in career if you have one and whatever else comes your way. For some, motherhood is a cakewalk for others it is a struggle. I have friends who make everyday seem effortless.

 

Couponing, canning fresh foods from their garden, homeschooling their children, cooking gourmet meals, girls night out, staying fit, trim, and young – How do they do it? I wish I knew! I am an on the go mom, I live out of my car, taxi my children to their different activities and events, and am not afraid to go through the fast food pick up line. I accept that.

 

When we are at home I cook healthy meals and sometimes I pack a healthy picnic and we take our food with us instead of eating out. All of those things are superficial, just what we can see from the outside. What about how we feel on the inside? We may even be very good at looking like we have it all together. Would you recognize it if one of your “mom” friends was unhappy, depressed or in trouble?

 

We need to look deeper and be able to discern when a friend is in need. As I look back over the past few years I can see times that I should have seen a friend who was struggling, depressed or hiding behind a mask of fear. There were times when I felt that there was a need but my friend did not express that she wanted help. I have learned to be more aware and act on intuition by:

 

• Letting her know I am thinking about her.
• Listening when she needs to talk.
• Telling the truth, even when she may not want to hear it.
• Not being afraid to ask questions or confront her.

 

There is nothing in my list that I would not want another friend to do with me. I think we should take a step out of our comfort zone and hold each other accountable to be good friends, mothers and wives.
