Minivan Mama In Training: A Taste Of Soccer Mom-Hood In The Town & Country.
Minivan Mama In Training: A Taste Of Soccer Mom-Hood In The Town & Country.
6-21-2012
My sporty duo are 27 months, 2 weeks, and 5 days old.
Soccer mom? Me? At least that is what a few of my ‘mom friends’ have been calling me at school. The ones that drive their big SUVS with pride and snarl at minivan mamas.
In all honesty, do you really need a minivan to be a ‘soccer mom’? I don’t think you do. I think there is honestly a little bit of soccer mom in all of us who have more than one child, shuffling them around from place to place which is simply…life. Being a parent.
Our Lexus truck is too small to fit us all in. Forget about just comfortably. It’s also too expensive of a monthly payment to have any cash left over at the end of the month. (Impractical post twins.) But golly gee who knew it was twins at the signing of that lease? Certainly not I.
So, when we had to hand our little Lexus in to get repairs done for the past week and 1/2, low and behold we temporarily traded our regular truck for a Town & Country minivan which is one of the top three picks on my minivan review for multiple moms +. Now I certainly have more to back up my previous opinion with.
I got behind the wheel, it just didn’t feel right. First off, I’m not used to having to stick a key in the ignition anymore. I’ve been spoiled. In the Lexus you just have to have the key on you or in the car somewhere, not inside the ignition. I could get used to that over time though. I have been there before. Not a big issue.
It also had the rear camera which I have fallen madly in love with in our Lexus. I don’t know if I could survive without that commodity any longer. It even went beyond that and beeped when you signaled and there was a car too close in an opposing lane. A very nice feature. An extra set of eyes if you will.
Granted in the Lexus you can lose track of how fast you are going because the ride is as smooth as silk. You can think you are doing 50 but you are actually going 75 MPH, and this was less so in the Town & Country. But like my husband says you can’t really compare the two together in that department.
The Town & Country is not a luxury vehicle but is a very practical one that does have it’s fair share of amenities. If I took away any previous experience with the Lexus and compared it to all the other SUVS and cars I have driven in my life, it is a completely comparable ride.
Personally, driving the minivan down the road.. it just felt weird. That was until the end of the second day when I realized all of the time and the fuss it was saving me. I didn’t have to worry as much about parking troubles with both side doors sliding open. I didn’t have to hear my kids fighting like crazy because they were squeezed close together and someone started crying and it was ‘annoying them’. Everyone had plenty of personal space.
The bucket seats made retrieving every one a breeze. The stow and go compartments were awesome for hiding my purse and shopping bags when we went to the park. No worries about scratching up doors in tight parking spaces. Also, had it rained, I would not have gotten soaked buckling every one in because you can step outside of the rain and into the vehicle.
I actually timed things with the girls and I saved 2 minutes and 12 seconds getting the twins in and out of this vehicle and stowing away the wagon. Part of that time is the fight. Knowing those fascinating doors were about to close, the twins were eager to sit down in their car seats for a change just to watch, which was heaven.
Though my father says never buy American where automobiles are concerned, (which I have to say ‘How very unpatriotic of you dad.’) I would take a Town & Country home tomorrow if I could. Too bad it goes back today. We will all miss you. Even the one who didn’t think she could ever possibly fall in love with a minivan..myself. I always said if I had to give up a sports car it will be for an SUV only. I have now changed my ways.
Toyota/Lexus break our lease and take your truck back. We need a van!
With multiples and more, sometimes you have to make sacrifices. This may feel like one but trust me..you’ll enjoy the minivan’s vast amenities. You have my word!
”I will never be a minivan mama. I will never be a minivan mama. Chrysler You helped me see the light. Now I wanna be a minivan mama. Funny how dead-set minds can still be changed.” – Mama P.
Why not?
