Height & Weight Percentiles And Growth Charts For Babies Through Teens. Plus, Height Predictor.
5-19-2012
I was looking up the average height and weight for my 6 year old since she’s been feeling on the tall side lately, and the chart I found first said 41 inches. She is 48 inches. Maybe a bit on the tall side yes, but 41 inches makes her seem ginormous for her age. I just knew it could not be right.
I read further on that chart. 30 inches for an average 2 year old? I’m thinking, mine are 32.5-32.75 inches now based on my ‘at home’ measuring, so they surpassed 30 inches quite a long time ago, and still are on the petite side. How could that be?
So I searched further and found other places with much more feasible numbers. The one only goes from newborns to 36 months, but is great for finding out exactly what percentile your little one, or your twins fall into.
You just put in the age in months, height, weight, head circumference if you wish but it isn’t needed, and it gives you all of the info. on how he or she stacks up against the average child of his or her age. It’s something I wish I had found a long time ago. During pediatrician visits I most often did not get those percentile numbers, and I do like to write everything down.
If you are interested in seeing what is considered average, here are some resources for you that are far more accurate than the 1st chart I had found. Basic charts and percentile chart included.

For fun: Height predictor. (Based on mom & dad. It’s already wrong for my son.)
(Not to be taken too seriously!)
Remember folks, these charts are only averages. Kids go through growth spurts at different times. Don’t freak out if your child or twins fall on the small or larger size in either height/weight or both. My 6 year old was short for her age from birth until 3.5 years of age where she suddenly sprung up.
Doctors told me she’d be petite and now I’m always being told how tall she is for 6 by the very same doctor and others, so you never can tell. I was also quite petite until 11th grade and now am 5’6”. Again…take it with a grain of salt.
I’ve still got a long way to go!
HAPPY WEEKEND!
