Good Luck My Eastern State Friends! May God Be With Us All During Hurricane Irene’s Rampage!
Good luck tomorrow evening into Sunday everybody in the Eastern states of the U.S.A. I hope and pray things predicted are worse then they actually turn out to be. I for one will be high tailing it on out of here, to be honest.
I have many friends who live by the water who will be evacuated, but we are just a tad north of the evacuation site, so I have decided to evacuate my family myself.
I took one final walk tonight to see how things are now vs. a few days thereafter. I hope they look much the same. Everything is so quiet, and incredibly peaceful now. You’d never know that anything was coming our way. It must be the calm before the storm.
I’ll be back to post in the morning. After that, it’s really hard to tell what lies ahead for the next couple of days if not longer if we are without power for any period of time. I’ll be in a hotel with my family. Thankfully, I begged early ‘just in case’ as everything is now booked up solid.
My husband isn’t very happy because we can’t really afford it, but to me, we are so close to where the worst of it is ‘suspected to be’, that I am not taking any chances. We are going to a place further North. HOPEFULLY, in a better spot, but not by too much.
If they are wrong, (which I hope so), we only lose one night and get a mini vacation out of it. YEAH HOTEL POOL!! If they aren’t, 2 nights are all we can possibly afford and may likely come home to zero power. That would suck with the kids and likely a muggy heat with zero air conditioning.
We are heavily stocked up on supplies, as I hope you all are if you are in the warpath of this hurricane named Irene. It felt like Y2K, scouring around for canned goods and bottled water. So many stores empty. Ok, this is worse then Y2K around here. DIFFERENT, more like it. But I remember I had to be tipsy as all heck to deal with my fear of that event come midnight. Nothing happened.
This will pass and I just want everybody to know how much I appreciate you following my blog. Just wanted to tell you how much I care about each and every one of you. And after the storm has passed PLEASE drop me a quick comment or email letting me know that you are ok. I’m a blogger with a heart, and I know people care about me and I care about people.
I wish I could afford to send those of us in Irene’s path straight to Hawaii or something. Wouldn’t that be nice? Unfortunately, not this time, but maybe the next. Well..Ok, without the hurricane part, just a getaway! Anyhow, stay smart. If you can’t evacuate do go into your basement where it’s safest, and stay away from windows that can blow out.
If I wasn’t such a wuss that is what I would do, but after Gloria in ’85 which I spent in a high school shelter as my brother marveled the destruction by the house window through it all. How sick that he thought it was cool, all of that peril and falling debris surrounding him? BOYS!!!
And then a bit later I forgot the name but it wasn’t an expected hurricane that rocked us while camping in tents mind you, over on Fire Island SMACK by the ocean. It was quite a horrible and memorable experience as me and my brother left our tent and it blew away right over our heads. That wasn’t all either. VERY scary night.
I think my husband can understand why I might want to be in a safer place for peace of mind sake. I’m sure I’ll take pictures and video of what goes on around here. I think I’ll feel safer behind those big hotel room windows. (Or maybe I’ll just leave the camera running on the sill.)
Again, good luck to all and please do let me know how you and your family are, in the area you reside in. Hopefully, it weakens overnight and we get really lucky. I’ll be praying for that and for each and every last one of you.
Good night friends.
OH and thanks for the warm thoughts on Facebook & on here about my daughter. It is called a Torus fracture of the wrist and it’s not a very severe one, THANKFULLY, but they did have to cast it. I asked for a waterproof cast which cost $20 more, but what is that vs. your child enjoying the water these last few weeks before school starts?
She was even given the OK to go to the amusement park next week to boot. (Should it be open.) That to me was TERRIFIC NEWS! I’ll share pics of her signed cast and more in tomorrow’s post. It’s a 3-4 week annoyance she will surely survive, and I’m doing much better today thanks to so many uplifting and wonderful comments!
