The Barbie Girls are 4 years, 1 month & 1 day old.
TheFisher-Price Lights & Sounds Tricycle is a product that I believe ALL little ones need. An easy to pedal, practical (yet entertaining) Big Wheels trike that will stand the test of time and keep on going. How do I know this since we have only owned two of these trikes for a little over a month now? Because for one, my twins are about as rough and tumble as they come and have been using these almost daily. Secondly, we owned a 2006 model of the Dora version of this trike. It had lights and sounds to, but they have since added a little cell phone which is a must for little girls. That tricycle still rides wonderfully to this day.
That vehicle has been left out in the rain more times than I could count, but that was because our daughter had well outgrown it and space was limited. Still it took forever and a day before the lights and sounds stopped working. In fact, I don’t even know if the weather did it or not. It could be the batteries for all we know. It just is really a high quality, long-lasting product.
The perks about this particular trike
1) It is easy to pedal for small/ weak feet.
I have steerable Schwinn bikes for our twins. I also got Radio Flyer tricycles for them when they were small. The tiny ones. And while I adore both of these brands, and I do own many Radio Flyer products, the particular trike they were given is extremely hard to pedal and too tiny in size. Once you can pedal it, you can no longer fit on it. Now maybe my girls are a little lazy, I don’t know. But they are in gymnastics and are quite strong, however, they really got no use out of those trikes. And their Schwinn bikes are still too hard to pedal well enough to not use the ‘mommy bar’ to push them along still. (They are newly 4.) With these trikes they take off and go-go-go straight away. Finally, Fisher-Price was able to bring on the smiles.
2) Fisher-Price quality is tops.
I grew up with Fisher-Price toys myself. Never in memory has any of their products ever truly disappointed me. This one even exceeded my expectations. You can buy this product with the utmost of confidence that the quality is there, and that the product will last for years to come. Beyond this child and to the next toddler even!
3) The price is great, and you have a few character options.
On Amazon, the price for this item is extremely attractive. You can choose from Dora the Explorer,Ni Hao, Kai-Lan or Barbie for girls. DC Super Friends Batman, Thomas the Train, or Harley Davidson for boys. It’s definitely one of the most practical purchases you can make for your growing child.
4) It will grow with your child.
I can foresee at least 2-3 years with this product, being able to fit on it. The adjustable seat enables you to get many more inches of riding time in. I’m going in with this product well over a year late for the suggested start age, so your 3 or 4 year old will get to use this for a long time to come.
(The manufacturer says for ages 2-6. I’d say more like 3-7 unless your child is on the taller side of 2 or on the taller side of 7.)
5) The bells and whistles will entertain your toddler/ small child.
There are a few different radio tunes to listen to, 2 flashing side blinkers & working headlight that light up, multiple horn sounds for your child to warn others, ”Get out of my way!” 😆 And there is a multi-message cell phone that will talk to your child in whatever ‘character’ of bike they choose, which is a really cute addition to the original model.
6) The wheels are nice and grippy.
Despite them being plastic, these big wheels get the job done! The twins drove them through puddles and patches of snow as shown in the video below. Only in huge puddles was there the least bit of ‘wheel slippage’. And it only lasted but a moment, and it wasn’t enough to even really bother mentioning, however, I know many people complain about this where plastic wheels are concerned. These are the best plastic wheels ever! They move wonderfully and are very non-frustrating for toddlers.
7) The vehicle is nice & light-weight should you need to carry it.
I LOVE the fact that this is so light-weight. Even my twins can carry it (at least for a ways.) It’s surprisingly light, and I like that. I don’t further hurt my back putting it in and out of our van, or if I needed (never happened thus far) to carry it from the park to our car, I’d be able to do so very easily. I can’t say that with everything my twinkies ride.
1) The ONLY con, and I do mean the only con, is the fact that the lid on the adorable compartment on the top of the trike by the steering wheel is not attached well enough in my opinion. It is far too easily pulled off by kids. If only it were fastened more securely there would be zero cons at all, because I love that they can carry a little snack or something along with them. It’s just that when it pops off, the lid is very easy to lose.
Right now neither of the twins’ trikes have one, and I do not know if they sell a replacement for it. They should because I am certain we are not the only ones who have had this issue. The old basket was better, in my personal opinion. This, of course, is nothing major compared to all of the wonderful perks of the product, therefore…..
Twinpossible rates the Fisher-price Lights & Sounds Trike 4.75 stars!
A near perfect rating. Fisher-Price just work at keeping that ‘snack trap lid’ from popping off easily, and you will get a 5 star rating from this mama!
The twins give this trike their stamp of approval!
