Father’s Day Gifts From You & The Kids! Great Last Minute Ideas.
6-16-2011
Father’s Day is only days away now, and some of us..*clearing throat* have not yet finished our Father’s Day shopping. Some men are easy to shop for, while other dads may be a bit challenging.
I like to buy something practical for my husband and father, along with something nice from the kids that says ‘Dad we love you’ and of course ‘Grandpa we love you.’
Here is a list of some great gift ideas from you & the family.
#1) Gift cards.
Does dad need something but he never lets on what it is specifically? Get him a card to his favorite store, for him to use on anything he wants. It’s a gift I know I always appreciate, and you can’t buy the wrong style or size. Plus, it’s a heck of a lot more personal than putting cash in a card. This way pops can buy whatever he fancies. He’ll always love this one.
#2) Buy for dad’s interests.
Does dad love to fish? Get him a new rod and reel. Does he like to barbecue? Get him some new grill supplies, a ‘we love dad’ apron, or maybe a new grill if he needs it, and the budget allows. If dad loves to play golf, how about some new clubs?
Sports fan? If you know his team, which I think all men make that very apparent, you can’t go wrong buying them a hat, some memorabilia, or a jersey or special card from their favorite team member(s).
#3) Get him that special gadget he’s been talking about.
Men love gadgets. Be it an electronic gadget, a gizmo for his computer or television set. A new power tool for Mr. Fix it, or tool for the craftsman. They just love those kind of things. Keep eyes and ears open and you’ll be sure to score big this Sunday!
#4) Got a gamer in the house?
My husband isn’t a video game fan but my father surely is, and so are many other men. Big kids in suits I call them. Why not surprise ‘ol dad with a new video game or two that you know he doesn’t have, but would certainly love. If you can afford the hottest new system on the market, that would surely make dad grin.
Even a gaming chair which if you look in multiple stores you can get them at pretty fabulous prices, makes a very practical and appreciated gift. I got one last year for dad for $80. Father’s Day doesn’t have to break the bank.
#5) The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
How about a gift certificate for dad’s favorite restaurant. Not only do you get dad a really great meal, but you are also getting an opportunity to get out with your honey. It could be a family event, or more romantically a one on one occasion.
If so, maybe in advance you could set up something with a sitter or family member, and have a special day set aside to head out for your special meal. Both of you benefit there. *WINK*.
Gift ideas from the kids.
I’m big on sentimental gifts. Unfortunately I didn’t have the time this year to get working on a big project for dad like a special DVD or photobook like I usually do, but I will think of something. Here are some ideas for dad.
#1) A handmade card and/or craft.
Most all dads would rather have a homemade card from their children then a store bought one. Let your kids break out the crayons, construction paper, and their creativity, and make a nice card for dear dad.
You can help out if they have trouble, but let them express their own originality in it. It will surely be treasured for many years to come. If you can also help them make a craft for dad, he’d really cherish it.
#2) A photo collage
In places like Walmart you can usually have these printed up in an hour’s time, so you can still do this. You can buy an inexpensive frame there to put it in. They only take a few minutes to make, so even the busiest of moms have time for this one. Let your kids pick out their favorite pictures of them with dad, and do it up! Dad will surely love it.
#3) Engraved gifts.
A beautiful silver or glass photo frame with a favorite picture in it and a special engraved message for dad will tug at the heartstrings. Places like Things Remembered, are usually found in large local malls and only take under an hour to have that special gift engraved. You can buy there or elsewhere, and they still will engrave the gift for you, and fast to.
If dad is a business man, perhaps an engraved business card holder for him to keep in his pocket, and close to his heart. Maybe a set of engraved cuff links, a money clip or steel thermos. Perhaps a pocket watch. The possibilities are endless.
#4) A handmade DVD.
Put special family photos and videos to music, and make dad a special DVD gift that he’ll cherish for a lifetime. Make a special DVD case cover for dad using your printer, or using your children’s creative little hands. Your hands can always help if you are crafty. The memories shared won’t ever grow old.
#5) Photo coffee mug or beer stein.
Chances are that dad loves one or both of these beverages. Get him a photo gift with a lovely family photo that he can sip out of, and remember a fond memory at the exact same time. He’ll love it, and they are fairly inexpensive, and very easy to make. They also have ones with special messages to, as shown above.
Show dad love this Sunday. It doesn’t really matter how much you buy him, or what you spend, because having his family near to him is what matters to dad most on this special holiday. Give him time to relax and enjoy his day, and he’ll appreciate all of your efforts.
Have a great one daddies! This weekend belongs to you!
PS- Oh, and don’t forget something risque for this Father’s Day. Dad will always appreciate that tasty little treat from mom, and mom only!
NOW have a great weekend.
