Mother’s Day is coming up, and sometimes husbands and family can be a little clueless.  We talked about things that any mom would enjoy as Mother’s Day gifts, but the mother of twins is EXTRA special this time of year.  

 

They have dealt with double the laundry, double the spit ups, double the sleepless nights, possibly double the pregnancy weight gain, double the workout of chasing two little ones.  What does such a mother deserve on this Mother’s day?  Something as special as she is, of course.

 

 

Gifts for the Twin Mom.

 

#1)  1st of all.  Mom NEEDS to get out of the house for sanity sake.  If you are a friend to a mom of multiples, offer some babysitting services so the parents can have a nice dinner and maybe even catch a movie afterwards, like the old days.  It’d be much appreciated, I KNOW!

 

Husbands offer your wives a break for the afternoon.  Let her go and lie on a sandy beach, (depending on your weather element, of course.)  Let her take a trip to the gym & go have lunch with a friend.  Nothing resets the stress clock more then some time away from the hectic household, to regroup, and recharge those  batteries.

 

#2)  A special piece of jewelry for the mom of multiples.  For example a two heart pendant, a piece of personalized jewelry with the twin’s names and/or birthstones on it, to wear around her neck or her finger. 

 

These meaningful and very thoughtful gifts go a long way with dear mom.  That’s what I asked for myself.  (Not the specific jewelry below, but along these lines.)  A couple’s ring is perfect if you just have twins.  I need a bigger ring.

 

#3)  Chances are the house is twice as messy with twice as many toddlers in the mix.  Get somebody in to clean for poor mom.  She’s exhausted enough, and cleaning services are beyond appreciated for the busy mother of multiples, believe me.  I’d really appreciate this gift myself.

 

#4)  Turn her favorite photograph of the entire family, or just the twins, into a framed canvas work of art to be cherished for decades to come.  Nothing like a beautiful wall portrait of family to brighten up a room, and dear mom’s spirits. 

 

 I think this would be extremely thoughtful, as all of us moms are suckers for pictures of our sweeties during their most tender moments.  You know when the temper tantrums and crying jags aren’t around.

 

#5)  Make mom a special photobook of the twins and family from birth to current times.  For a man this may take work, which we of course are more savvy when it comes to making sentimental things (usually), but luckily places like Shutterfly make it very easy to do this. 

 

 A 12 year old could make one, so I have total faith in you.  They are inexpensive, and make very, very, thoughtful gifts.  A sure to make her smile treasure.

 

#6)  A unique bouquet of beautiful flowers, with two (or if you have triplets) 3 of each kind of flower, so it is obvious what ‘theme’ you are driving at.  As they say, ‘Two is better then one.’

 

#7)  Two boxes of fine Ghirardelli or Godiva chocolates.  Don’t worry about her finishing them off.  That won’t be a problem, believe me.  Just make sure to keep your own hand out of the cookie jar dad. 

 

#8)  This one is basically free, and again just takes some work on your part.  Make a DVD for your wonderful wife, highlighting the most special moments of her life with the twins, and other children if you have them. 

 

 Put video and photographs from your computer, into simple editing software available on most any computer, such as Window’s Movie Maker, and a few hours of hard work, will make mom smile for a lifetime. 

 

You can find blank DVDS and cases to publish your movie on, at your local Comp USA, Micro Center, and most any shop that has printing paper, computers, and other office supplies such as those.

 

 

#9)  If you can afford it, a day of pampering for mom would be wonderful.  Being a mother of twins is a blessing but it isn’t an easy job, and mom does need to relax. 

 

A day at the spa, even a 1/2 day, including a nice facial, manicure, and a deep tissue massage to help ease those overworked muscles is just what she needs to feel happy and rejuvenated. 

If she is feeling frumpy since the birth of the twins which many postpartum women, especially with twins tend to do, add in a special visit to the salon for her hair and makeup to be done.  This will really boost mom’s self esteem not to mention put you on her nice list.

 

#10)  If money isn’t an object and you can take the time off of work, find someone…A friend, family member, or trusted nanny, to watch the children, and take your wife away for the weekend.  Man, do I wish I could do this one. 

 

Take her to Atlantic city, Vegas, Florida, some place warm and relaxing, or glitzy and fun.  Spend some well deserved and well needed time TOGETHER.  That is a gift not only for her, but for you dad, as well.

Bonus #11 that doesn’t cost you a thing, but some consideration.

If you have new twins, let mom sleep in this Mother’s Day.  Get up with the twins that night, make her some breakfast in bed.  Take the children out for awhile so she can Facebook, blog, exercise, soak in a warm bath, or whatever she chooses to do in her spare time which is usually quite scarce. 

 

Just make life easier for her on that special day.  If you can do that and get out to a romantic dinner with flowers.  Trust me, mom will be very, VERY happy.

PS-  DADS, do NOT go out and buy mom a gym membership unless you know for a fact she already wanted one.  That would not go over well, believe you me.  We are women.  We can spin it around and not to your benefit, so BE CAREFUL!
