Annie’s Journey To Glasses Is Finally Here (Video)
My twins are 29 months & 3 weeks, and 6 days old
After being told Annie had Accommodative Estropia, which is a eye turn causing some farsightedness, we were told she would need glasses and I was crushed at the very thought of it.
Then we got a second, third, and fourth opinion as her eyes had straightened out so wonderfully it seemed as if what one doctor thought might be pseudostrabismus and nothing ‘really real’ at all, was correct. Maybe she was growing out of it and we wouldn’t need to cover up that pretty, little face after all. HORRAY!
However, when I noticed the eye turn coming back recently, I thought to myself as a mother that something wasn’t right. Maybe the last doctor we saw wasn’t correct after all. I prayed with my whole heart that he was, but alas, we took her into Manhattan late last week to get checked out once more. My smile turned to a giant frown when the doctor got a good look and confirmed the initial diagnosis of Accommodative Estropia and the need for glasses for correction 😥 .
Now I pine for the face I love that won’t look the same for at least a year, two, maybe more or even much more, and the heartache of watching her fight the glasses and try to adjust to them as she also battles with her twin in the process. Nothing about this will be easy. It was very upsetting news indeed, but if we had not gone.. the physical repercussions for poor Annie could have been really bad down the line. So it’s a good thing in that now we are able to help her. We surely didn’t want to give her glasses she didn’t need, but now that they say that she does we didn’t want to wait any longer.
It looks like fun..for now.
It is going to be a major challenge. Especially with them being energetic, often fighting twins.
Here is a video I put together of my little Annie’s journey to picking out her eye glasses, and how she will look in about 5 days with them on. It’s sad for me to watch but again..I know we are doing the right thing. I’m just glad I trusted my gut. I just hope that $426 lasts awhile and they don’t get crushed in a day. This remains to be seen.
Enjoy! Oh and no worries we got the best lenses for her with an extra special coating to make sure that the camera flash will not cause any reflections. That means you’ll still be seeing plenty of lovely photos of my twinkies, Annie included…naturally.
I will miss her former mug, but will love it no matter what.
If you find that out that your baby, toddler, or child needs glasses this is an amazing resource for you to turn to.
