4 Month Milestones, Ways To Play With Baby Now, & Encouraging ‘FUN’, Tummy Time. (Plus A Little Usual Babble)
4 3/4 months old
Everything here is going good. HA The Partridge Family is on. So nice to see a show that is older then I am. That makes me feel better:) But I digress.. The girls are babbling so much, & laughing alot, aloud now, It’s just so precious, and my little Annie bug, is quickly catching up in size, to her big sister, which is great, because I bought clothes ahead of time, and most things, the same sizes, so I hope it all works out, but you can still feel ‘moose’ is more solid, and heavy, over all.
I told hubby we got to quit with that name. ‘Fatty’ and ‘Moose’ and ‘Chubba’, are all cute little nicknames as babies…well, moose that was his one, chunky monkey is better to me, but anyhow, it’s not so sweet as they grow, so it’s almost time to can that. What is innocent now, is detrimental later. We’ll wean off. My favs are still Annie bug and Allie pop (or Allie Cat or Alligator) 😎
She is still the super sweet twin, my Allie. Some people have told me, the one that is the angel from the beginning will suddenly turn into the spit-fire baby, the crazier twin, but that hasn’t happened over here. Miss Annaliese, still holds the title of Miss Crank 2010! He he. (I joke with my 4 yr. old about this. She likes to ask, who gets crowned Miss crank today. 9 out of 10 times, the answer is the same. Luckilly Annie is so darned adorable, she gets away with anything.
Still waiting on Annie to roll & Allie to stand. Funny how they both do opposite milestones, but nether does both. I know Annie is capable. She has been going side to side forever, just hasn’t taken the plunge, and Allie has still got mushy legs, but I’m working on it daily, that and Tummy time.
You can see a video of Tummy time below. I use Annie to show you how you can get your baby to do tummy time, not only effectively, but without all the tears shed, cause let’s face it, it does breaks us moms’ hearts, and we like to scoop them up, whenever they struggle and cry. It hurts US, however, it is very important to do, and actually essential. It helps them not only with pushing up, holding their heads steady from their tummies, moving it from side to side, to help lower the risk of SIDS, but also for the tasks ahead, like sitting up, and even walking, so it is important. Check this out!!
Ok, and as far as what the girls should be doing at 4 months, and what your baby is ‘supposedly’ supposed to be doing as well. (Remember these are general guidelines, and are NOT set in stone, and vary from baby to baby). These are the milestones they say the average baby, of this age, should hit at 4 months…below:
4 MO. MILESTONES
1) At this age you can expect your child to start rolling from their back’s to their bellies.
2) When placed on his/her belly, baby should be able to push up, from their elbows, and hold their head erect, and even push their chests up off the floor. (If not, watch my video, and do more tummy time..don’t freak out)
3) Your child should be able to sit with support. Wondering what that truly means, of course I can hold the babies up, in a sitting position, but not let go of course. Guess that’s what they mean.
4)Hold an object, like a teether, rattle, or small toy. Let go of it as well.
5)Respond to you, and other loved ones, whom they are used to, and show lots of smiles and sounds in response. They even may start rejecting others, and crying at this point, but a lot, are still content to be held by anyone.
6) Your baby should now be able to bear weight on their legs. (Stand on your lap, as an example).
7) He/she should be able to laugh and giggle aloud
8 ) Able to place objects inside their mouths (Now is the time to start watching our babies more closely on that 1)
9) Have markedly increased, hand/ eye coordination.
10) They can now demand your attention by crying aloud, for it.
11) They should have doubled their birth weights by now.
12) Begin to show signs of memory.
These are some basic milestones for your 4 month old child, or twins. Premature babies tend to hit milestones later, so if you are the mom of a preemie, or preemie twins, don’t worry if your baby, does little or none of what is on this list, at this point. Listen to your Dr., not the Internet, they will let you know, where your babies should be at.
Ok…A few fun ways you can now play with your child, or children, in the case of multiples. Let’s face it, in early months, there wasn’t much you could do for real ‘play’, and though still kind of limited, with each week, they get more and more able, and more and more fun. These are also things that help encourage mental and physical development, as well as bonding.
WAYS TO PLAY WITH BABY NOW AT 4 MONTHS+
1)Use mirrors. Babies at this age, LOVE mirrors, and seeing not only themselves, but you in them, so use them for play time. I find it so adorable watching them smile at their reflections, then looking up at me. It’s too sweet.
2) Buy small hand-held toys for you and baby to use for play time, that are easy to grab & eye catching (brightly colored).
3)Engage in tummy time, using your legs, and letting baby look down on you, and ‘connect’ with you, during their workout (To know what I mean, see the above video).
4)Help your baby roll from back to belly, and belly to back, which will encourage him to do it for him or herself.
5)Start with peek a boo. (They may not fully appreciate it at this point, but you may just get a chuckle or two, like I have, so it’s worth a shot. They might just enjoy it.
6)Sing to baby, clapping your hands (they really seem to enjoy this), and using facial expressions, and your hands movements to entertain. Good examples of songs to sing (Clap hands until Daddy comes home, Patty Cake, and if you are happy & you know it).
Whelp, those are all the tidbits I have for today. I hope they are helpful. As far as me. Right now, just praying the power doesn’t go out. Having all these air conditioners on, has been blowing out the power left and right, and Hubby isn’t home from work yet.
They have cut down the power, and even with the air on it’s still hot because of it. I can only imagine what the electric bill will be this month, if it was $700 last month. I pray it gets cooler soon, so we can all enjoy this summer….FINALLY! This is such a waste!
Whelp take care for now, and enjoy your lil luv bugs!
PS- Just adding a few pics of the girls from their little party yesterday. Aren’t my girls so beautiful? Check out the new Mud Pie outfits! I just CANNOT get enough of the stuff!
