11 Surprising Health Benefits Of Orgasm, No Matter How It Is Achieved
My little cutie-pies are 6 years, 2 months, 3 weeks & 2 days old.
(WARNING: OK kiddies step aside. This article is for us women ONLY!)
Let’s talk about the big O! That’s right.. every woman’s secret best friend that nobody talks about.. the orgasm. Whether achieved through intercourse, which can be harder for many women. Some may find it seemingly impossible. Or whether by masturbation, this is an absolutely healthy, normal part of life that has many benefits for you. Some things that you might not even be aware of. I will list them below.
So next time you are alone, the kids are gone, you are able to relax and let loose, know that orgasm is not only pleasurable but healthy too. Don’t be afraid to de-stress yourself (I know moms need to do this more than anybody) and embrace your inner goddess, and allow her to bid farewell to the stress of the day, week, month, year.
1) Orgasms reduce stress and help ward off depression. They also help depression and anxiety in those who already have it too.
Orgasm releases happy endorphins that bring a sense of peace, calm and fulfillment into your world. Heck, it may not last forever, but it is darned nice while it does last, but the stress relief lasts longer than the actual ‘O’. Reducing stress via orgasm allows you to better focus on the day ahead of you or relax after an already difficult one. It is also shown that people who already suffer from anxiety and depression are actually helped greatly by regular orgasms, no matter how they are had. I know what I used to do during times of great stress. I will confirm that it DOES help A LOT! It’s kind of like therapy you can get at home, but way more fun. Give it a try.
2) Orgasms help promote a better night’s sleep.
YUP, it’s not just guys that get relaxed enough after a good orgasm to fall asleep. Women also reap this reward. I mean if you do it in the middle of a busy day, no worries, you won’t fall asleep at the wheel while picking the kids up from school. However, if you are getting ready for bed, settling in and have a good O (or two or three) it definitely will help your restlessness and/or insomnia.
3) Orgasms help with menstrual cramps & heavy bleeding. They sometimes also can help to bring on a period when ready, but it just hasn’t been happening yet.
Orgasm is said to help relieve period cramping, and it helps get the blood flow moving along so the pain is shorter-lived, along with quickly pasing through your normally heavy bleeding. With endometriosis some pain relief is something to be appreciated, as my periods are sheer torture. If you are overdue for your period, as long as the body is ripe and ready, but still lingering along, an orgasm can help to bring on your period, but only if ready. Unfortunately, you can’t bring it on 2 weeks early because of a vacation, though that would be nice. I found that multiple orgasms really do help reduce the pain for awhile, and orgasms during your period actually feel a lot better due to the increased blood flow to the lower region. Who knew?
4) Orgasms help you get in touch with your sexuality.
You know what you like, and over the years you figure it all out by exploring your own body and bringing it to climax. This can help you out in your relationships to hopefully get the big O with your partner, and just feel more confident within yourself, being in tune with your body and what it needs to orgasm and get to that pleasure zone. So many women feel like it’s taboo and really have no clue how to stimulate themselves to orgasm or feel ashamed of it. DON’T! It is completely healthy and a part of every person’s life. If they say ‘no way’ they are either lying or it is really, really sad. Every person from the teenage years and beyond of course.
Don’t be ashamed, be free, FEEL GOOD!! Know everything that there is about your body and feel empowered by that knowledge. It will help you when alone and with your partner. Plus, no safer sex there is, right? If in-between relationships, self-love is a woman’s best friend!
5) Orgasms are a natural pain reliever for your entire body.
We talked about period cramps, but orgasm can reduce all kinds of pain in your body up to 70% due to the hormones released during them. I have gotten rid of bad headaches myself with a few big O’s. Oxytocin, vasopressin, endorphins and dopamine. These all have health benefits for our bodies. Relieving all types of pain to some extent and reducing inflammation within our bodies is noted to be one of these great benefits. Who wouldn’t appreciate feeling 70% better? I know I do!
6) Orgasm helps keep you looking young with its anti-aging properties.
Say that again? OK, it might not be a facelift or anything crazy like that, but it does help. WHY? As we age, testosterone levels decrease, however, regular sex releases a plethora of chemicals, which contain testosterone. The hormones that are released during orgasm include DHEA (Dehyrdoepiandrosterone) which restores skin, helps repair damaged tissues keeping skin looking plump, pretty and youthful. It also helps to keep our bones and muscles healthy as well. If you knew this, you would have been having more of them than you have been, no? At 40 now, I know what I am going to make part of my own daily routine (TMI).
7) Orgasms help amp up our immune systems.
Due to the release of antibodies, in particular immunoglobulin A, that naturally boost and increase our immune system’s abilities so that we are less susceptible to colds and flu-bugs, as our body’s defenses strengthen to fight illness.
8 ) Orgasms tone the vagina for better, more pleasurable sex. They are good prior to and after childbirth also, for reasons discussed below. They also help ward off some menopause vaginal side-effects also.
I always wondered this, and I researched it A LOT, and used my own experience to test out the theory I have had in my head over many, many years. Orgasm DOES help keep our pelvic floor toned, tighter & helps ward off problems related to say a poorly repaired tear during childbirth for better sex, all the way to lessening menopausal symptoms effects on the vaginal area.
I have given birth to 5 children, and every time, like many women, I feared for my poor ‘lower region’, however, no changes in how I felt within myself, or how my partner feels things has ever been experienced. (And believe me, I grilled him each and every time.) I attribute this to not really kegels. I have done some but not religiously like maybe I have wanted to over the years. They aren’t as fun as THE BIG O anyhow! I attribute this to fairly regular orgasms.
But I thought, and finally found out to be correct, that regular orgasms, no matter through sex or masturbation, help tone the vagina with the muscle contractions that follow the rush of pleasure you feel during the most intense phase of orgasm. Let those contractions go as long as they can and know they are not only feeling quite good but toning up that pelvic floor too. This can help increase pleasure, decrease the risks for incontinence and prolapse, help ward off some of the unpleasant symptoms that menopause can bring to a woman’s life as she ages, keep the area more youthful and healthy, and if you are planning on having more children, it helps tone the area and the uterus for a possibly easier and/or faster birth experience and a quicker postpartum recovery. Don’t axe the kegels altogether, just do add orgasm to your regimen. I started about 5 days postpartum after pregnancy. *BLUSH*. I do think it helps, and nope.. there was zero pain in it. In fact, they were even BETTER at that time, to my great surprise!
9) Orgasms help reduce cravings for unhealthy eating and over-eating.
Who knew that something so simple could actually help you to lose weight or maintain your current weight as you get older like I am fighting to do myself. You are less likely to grab that bag of potato chips and over-eat when you do if you make orgasms a regular, happy party of your life, many studies have shown. Your heart beats faster when sexually excited, and so you also burn calories during orgasm. So in a way it is a form of FUN exercise! Sexual activity will burn more of those calories, of course, along with the O, but you are getting some exercise all on your own, without even knowing it too!
10) Here comes some beautiful, glowing skin.
Pregnancy is NOT the only time that you can glow. Due to a post-orgasm endorphin rush and increased blood and oxygen circulation throughout your entire body, your skin reaps some beautiful benefits from the almighty orgasm, no matter how it is reached. The “sex glow”, some people call it, is in part caused by your body’s release of DHEA, which promotes healthy skin and improves your complexion. Who would think that something that makes you feel so good could make you look more attractive too?
There are TONS of health benefits of orgasm. Too many for me to list right now, but aren’t these 10 enough to make you want to go find yourself, or grab your partner? I know it is definitely working for me!
11) Orgasms are heart protective too!
A myriad of hormones are released throughout your body during sexual arousal and climax (orgasm.) DHEA, prolactin, adrenaline, noradrenaline and testosterone. Most of these hormones have great cardio-protective effects. Oxytocin surges during orgasm and lowers your blood pressure, which lower blood pressure, we all know, helps ward off both heart attack and stroke. Be happy AND heart healthy!
Enjoy the O, and reap the many rewards!
