10 Things You Should Say To A Mother Of Multiples!
10 Things You Should Say To A Mother Of Multiples!
6-8-2012
The bambinos are 27 months and 6 days young.
Since I volunteered at school for field day today, and then we have a recital to prep for and then go to tonight, time is tough today. So why don’t we just continue with yesterday’s topic and flip it around, if you will.
We talked about 15 things to NOT say to a mother of multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) But what about the positive things you can say. What are the things that you’ve heard regarding your multiples or twin mommy status that help make your day a little bit brighter? I know there are certain things that I hear that I actually appreciate hearing.
The opposing side may win on this one, but still let’s just try and think about the good that comes to us from the circus like crowds we draw from our multiples.
What you should say to a multiple mommy
(I’m too tired to think up 15 things at the moment.)
1) Your twins are beautiful.
Keep it sweet and simple. That’s what a twin mom really enjoys and appreciates most. You know they are beautiful, but it’s still nice to hear.
2) I don’t know how you do it, but you are doing an amazing job.
I have had many strangers along the way compliment me for the way I juggle the twins on my own and how I take care of them. These types of comments always make me feel proud of myself. I then feel like, ”you know what, I am doing a damn good job.” (Mental pat on back.)
3) You are so blessed.
Not cursed like many people used to make me feel like I was when I was pregnant. Bas^ards! Lucky is also nice word to hear to. It makes you realize that you really are lucky, despite all of the hard work.
4) You look terrific.
See I left out the part that we talked about yesterday. Omit the ‘for having twins’, and you actually have a really nice compliment there.
5) “You make it look easy.”
Though we all know it is not. It’s fun to be able to fool people sometimes.
6) “What adorable boy/girl, or girl/girl, or boy/boy twins.”
Notice no answering questions about gender. These people have already studied your children for 5 seconds and could tell that the blue onesie and baseball cap means boy and the pink blanket and headband means girl. We really appreciate your thinking before you speak. Multiple moms get plenty of the other side, believe me.
7) “You’re a great mom.”
Yup, I have heard this from absolute strangers before. It really makes you smile. People study you with multiples more than you know. It’s nice when they say something kind like that.
8 ) “I give you credit…
I have one child and I can’t imagine having two at one time. God bless you.” (Yes he did.)
9) “You go..I’ll hold the door open.” ”Can I help you out with anything?” (Etc.)
This is one perk I have noticed with twins. People are kinder in doing things to help you out (most times). Doors are always opened for you to pass through, and other little things that help make your life a tad easier. They realize you have your hands full without the need to make that comment. We multiple moms appreciate a gesture of kindness followed by NO 20 QUESTIONS!
10) “I have two close in age, but…
I know it’s nothing like having twins.” Some people actually DO realize this, which is nice. I never argue with people over which is harder. I have been to both places. But there just isn’t any comparison there to make. It’s very, very different.
I hate it when people argue the flip side of things when they haven’t even had twins and two different in age. Give twin moms credit where credit is due, and you’ll make our day a little bit brighter.
Thanks for stopping by. I’m off to the races now!
(Fairly literally.)
